Monthly prize — rules

Last updated: 13 October 2026

Every month the ChessEyes player who gains the most puzzle rating points wins 1 month of Chess.com Gold, as soon as enough people are racing. The live standings are on the leaderboard.

Who can take part

  • Anyone with a ChessEyes account, free or paid. No purchase is needed to take part or to win.
  • You must be at least 13 years old (Chess.com's minimum age), and have a parent's consent if you're under 18.
  • One account per person. Players hidden from the leaderboard aren't in the race.

The month and the score

  • A month runs from the 1st at 00:00 to its last day at 23:59 (UTC).
  • Your score is the sum of the rating changes from the rated puzzles you finish that month — points won minus points lost.
  • Your first 20 puzzles on ChessEyes don't count: they settle your starting rating, which moves fast at first.
  • Ties go to the player who solved more puzzles that month, then to whoever got there first.

When the prize unlocks

The prize is awarded only for a month with at least 50 players — signed-in players who finished at least one puzzle that month. The leaderboard shows the count live. Below that, the month is played for glory only.

The prize

  • One month of Chess.com Gold membership, sent as a gift to the winner's Chess.com username. If you don't have a Chess.com account, you can create a free one to receive it.
  • It can't be exchanged for cash or for anything else.
  • We contact the winner by email within 7 days after the month ends. If we get no reply within 14 days, the prize goes to the next player on the table.
  • We may announce the winner's leaderboard name on ChessEyes and on our social accounts.

Fair play

Solve the puzzles yourself — no engines, no help from others. Losing rating on purpose to win it back later, or using more than one account, disqualifies you. We review the winner's puzzle history before awarding the prize, and our decision is final.

Organiser

The monthly prize is run by ChessEyes (Loopeasy Ltd). We may change or end it by updating this page; a race that has already started is honoured under the rules it started with. Until 13 October 2026 the race was weekly: the week of 12–18 October 2026 is still honoured under the weekly rules it started with. Questions: contact us.
