Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data ChessEyes (“we”, “us”) collects, why, and your rights. Questions: contact us.

What we collect

• Account data — the chess.com / lichess username you sign in with, or your Google account's name and email if you sign in with Google.
• Email — the address you give us after signing in (or your Google address), used for account emails such as the welcome email. Only if you tick the box or subscribe: puzzle tips, the weekly recap and occasional offers — we keep when and where you agreed, and the wording.
• Puzzle progress — puzzles played, solved, your puzzle rating and path progress. After 20 puzzles your chess username (or first name and initial) and rating appear on the public leaderboard; you can hide yourself there at any time.
• Chess data — the chess.com / lichess username you connect, and your public games imported from those platforms (moves, results, dates, opponents, ratings).
• Purchases & donations — handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details; we keep the donation amount and a Stripe reference.
• Feedback — messages you send via the contact form.
• Analytics — anonymous usage data (see our Cookie Policy).

How we use it

• To run the service: pick puzzles at your level, track your progress, and — if you import your games — detect your openings and match grandmaster videos.
• To send account emails (a welcome email when you join).
• With your consent only: puzzle tips during your first days, then the weekly recap (new videos, most-watched puzzles, your progress) and occasional offers. Every one has a one-click unsubscribe link.
• To maintain your account and dashboard.
• To improve ChessEyes (aggregate, anonymous analytics).

We do not sell your data.

Third parties we share data with

• Neon (database hosting), Vercel (app hosting).
• chess.com / lichess — we read your public games via their public APIs.
• Stripe — payment processing for puzzle plans and donations.
• Resend — sends our emails (recap, account emails).
• Google — only if you choose "Continue with Google" to sign in.
• Google Analytics & Vercel Analytics — usage analytics (Google only after you accept cookies).
• YouTube — we link/embed publicly available videos; we don’t share your data with them.

Your rights (GDPR)

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data, and withdraw analytics consent at any time. To delete your account and data, contact us and we will action it promptly.

Retention

We keep your data while your account is active. On deletion request, we remove your account, games, and personal data.
